Gabon is the first central African country to host the African Growht and Opportunity Act forum. This year edition has started two days ago (August 24th) in Libreville and will take place through August 27th.
You can learn more about the AGOA at the bureau of African Affairs section of the US Department of State website.
My opinion on the AGOA? Well it can help, and I believe some African countries have taken steps to make the most of this opportunity. I believe, however, that the promotion of intra-trade within African countries, the serious tackling of corruption, the improvement of local investment and business environment will have a much larger impact than preferential policies designed in the West.
